L2 Introduction to Fire Investigation  —  Online Theory Course

The main objective of the ‘Skills for Justice Awards’ Level 2 Award ‘ in Introduction to Fire Investigation’ qualification, is to improve the awareness of Fire & Rescue Service Watch and Crew Managers, Crime Scene Investigators and other professionals requiring the knowledge & skills to routinely determine the origin & cause of ‘Tier 1’ scene investigations.

This online theory programme course covers all of the learning outcomes required by the National Fire Chiefs Council to enable participants to be trained and competent to Tier 1 standard. Achievement of the qualification will enable them to make more accurate and effective judgements, taking into account their professional and legal responsibility and also enables learners to identify when to pass an incident to a ‘Tier 2’ investigator.

The course is on-line, which enables the learner to I progress at their own rate, in their own time and provides access to further reading to support their learning. They have contact with an assessor to support them through the course and assessments. GATR contributed to the design & development of the learning which has two path options. Both contain the same content, but costs, delivery and assessments slightly differ. One route is accredited by Skills for Justice Awards (SFJ Awards) as a Level 2 Award and the other is a GATR route “equivalent to meet all of the ‘SFJ Awards Introduction to Fire Investigation assessment criteria” and is an IFE recognised course.

The SFJ Awards route candidates must partake in a remote professional discussion with a course tutor. This is to check progress and understanding, but also allows the candidate to ask questions of the tutor. This is normally 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the candidates’ questions and interaction.

The GATR route requires no formal interaction with the course manager. However, should the student have any difficulties the course manager will be available to guide and support them.
