Gardiner Associates Training & Research — Explosion Course

This unique 2-day training package specialises in identification of a scene where an explosion has been suspected to have occurred. This course is aimed at those who attend explosion scenes such as fire investigators (FI), incident commanders (IC/OIC), investigators from the private sector, crime scene investigators (CSI/SOCO) and managers (CSM/SOCM), Hazardous material advisers (HMA’s) and other interested partners who may interact at explosion scenes such as Police response teams and local authority staff.

The course includes:

Content covers various types of explosions which will require investigation and it covers the common types of scenes attended, knowledge of items used in various explosive devices and situations, methods of locating component parts plus identification of forensic opportunities for recovery.

—  Risk assessments; bespoke to explosion scenes and health, safety and welfare.

—  Explosive definitions, classifications and markings.

—  Identification of terrorist incidents or non-terrorist related explosions.

—  Natural gas; science of explosive limits and properties of common gasses.

—  Signs of explosion; key signs and symptoms.

—  Butane Hash Oil – manufacture and signs/ symptoms.

—  Cash Machine Theft – How ATMs work, construction, methods of entry.

—  Containers: Aerosols, gas canisters, cylinders including nitrous oxide misuse.

—  Batteries; Lithium-Ion Batteries and Battery Energy Storage Systems.

—  Fireworks: classification, markings, misuse and methods of identification post explosion.

—  Pyrotechnics – types of common flares, smoke generators etc and methods of operation.

—  Home Made Explosives; main types, key components of construction and identification.

This course is delivered at your local training venue and consists of a blend of theory and case study sessions within a classroom environment involving desktop examples, historic cases and demonstrations.
