Gardiner Associates Training & Research — The SFJA Level 5 Certificate Course

The SFJA Level 5 Certificate is a work-based qualification and has been designed to accredit the knowledge and skills of learners who investigate, report and present evidence related to incidents involving fire and / or explosion. Following the successful completion of their development programme, it is recommended that investigators successfully complete an appropriate fire investigation related qualification to a minimum level 5. This qualification is at Certificate level (220hrs TQT). Our Assessment Process combines both practical and theoretical assessments, using real fire scenes at our bespoke facilities at Phoenix Heights.

This process allows the candidate to meet the required criteria in several recognised methods of assessment; Direct Observation, Product Evidence, Questioning, Professional Discussion, and Assignment. There are some significant differences between the Level 5 Award in Fire Investigation and the Skills for Justice Level 5 Certificate (LSC) in Fire Investigation. Whilst the subject matter and assessment criteria may seem similar and relate directly to the NOS, the time required to reach the assessment standard are not. This is because the assessment criteria and standard for a pass at Certificate level are much more challenging.
