Gardiner Associates Training & Research — Electrical Course

During the investigation of fire incidents, when it comes to electricity and electrical causes of fire, it has been recognised that at Tier 1 and Tier 2 there are variations in the knowledge and confidence when determining or eliminating the cause of fire as electrical. This course is now being requested by many FRS.

This package is designed to provide fire investigators with a basic understanding of electricity and how it is generated and distributed. They will be able to identify the dangers of electrical equipment and how to mitigate those dangers. They will be aware of the source of the rules and regulations covering domestic electrical installations, be able to identify the components of a domestic installation and be aware of their function within the system. Finally, they will be able to identify the broad range of conditions which can indicate an electrical cause of fire.

The course will be a mixture of presentations and workshops. The workshops are hands on with electrical components, eg. consumer units, protection devices and also fire damaged exhibits.

The course has been designed by those qualified to the 18th Ed Wiring Regs BS 7671 and existing practitioners to ensure the course is relevant and up to date. The course is one a day duration with the option of further days with additional modules. Day one is a half days input (Basis Module) followed by Module 2, Electrical causes of Fire. There are further modules that an organisation can opt to receive on additional days.
